Having been involved in social media and social media marketing since the early days, I've always been a big fan of Seth Godin and if you don't know Seth check him out, he's all over the Internet and his advice is inspirational. 

It's been a while since Seth said: 'Don't find customers for your products, find products for your customers.' Wise words, I'm sure you'll agree and it must be an easier approach to business whatever your products are and whatever sector you serve. 

On that note, we've found a pretty amazing product for our customers! What a great start to 2017!

If you've read "So What is Growth Hacking? (part one)" published on LinkedIn back in April 2016 and here earlier this year, you'll know that growth hacking is about using social media, digital marketing and other various means of communication to get your company message or brand out there and build up your user base.

Growth hacking is an alternative to wasting lots of money on traditional advertising, it's embraced by start ups with small budgets and lots of enthusiasm. The term was originally coined by Sean Ellis back in 2010, so it's not something particularly new, apparently the term refers to someone who is clever, original, or inventive.

As far as I'm concerned, growth hacking shouldn't simply be about social media and technological integration, but it should also be considered a way of using traditional marketing methods differently and more effectively to create growth.

Supreme Landscaping Products using video for marketing

I originally published a version of this article on LinkedIn in February and although I've spent years working in construction and construction related businesses, I was very new to this particular landscaping and building products sector. 

Supreme Landscaping Products were not actually making landscaping or construction products but simply offering a large variety of very innovative landscaping products online.

However, this article is about using video for marketing and is very relevant to any marketer, you certainly don't have to be marketing building or landscaping products to fully appreciate the benefits of video marketing. The concept works for any product and any sector because all businesses need testimonials.

So here's one of my first posts as Marketing Manager for Supreme Landscaping Products.

Starting a new job with lots of new landscaping products to market is very exciting to say the least!

My first task is not to start on budgets for 2016 or even start to consider where Supreme Landscaping Product's money is best spent, but to look at what's currently in place and consider how effective it is.

Yes, we're back on the subject of growth hacking, some days great opportunities just appear around every corner!

About 7 months ago, I was delighted to announce that Topps Tiles were promoting our best selling product EASYJoint in a particularly stylish manner. Despite Topps Tiles being my direct competition, I was more than happy to write about, publish and highlight their excellent video which undoubtedly cost a lot of money to make. It's a great video, very well produced and it really shows the benefits of using EASYJoint, if only Supreme Landscaping Products had that kind of marketing budget.

I spoke to a customer yesterday (hi Josh) and reminded him to forward me the photographs he'd promised me (ages ago) of a few EASYJoint projects he'd completed. He chuckled and said it was about time he sent them as he was coming up to that 'quiet time of year.'

Coming from a construction background I fully appreciate that coming up towards Christmas does or can get a little quiet, but for landscapers and builders using EasyJoint for patios and paving projects there shouldn't be any real reason for a slow down or a quiet time of year.

I defy anyone to look at Lancelot 'Capability' Brown's Italian Garden design at Blenheim Palace and not appreciate the design and at least consider it as a work of art.

However, the 18th Century was quite a while ago, landscaping even on a palatial level has changed significantly over the centuries and the big question is...

It wasn't many weeks ago that I published an article entitled 'Is landscaping art in the 21st century?' It seems to me that landscaping most certainly is an art in the 21st century and it's also a phenomenon that's growing in popularity. Why? One reason is that people aren't moving house as much as they used to, another reason is that they're entertaining more at home, much more than they used to and therefore they need more quality space to entertain. (Note the phrase 'quality space' and also look around and see how many pubs are closed.)
